Someone asked me for a VFD firmware dump — hard no?
The question
A vendor wants a full firmware dump from a running PowerFlex to 'compare revisions.' I don't like handing binaries around. What do you give them instead that still lets them tell you if we are on a bad rev?

Hard no on a dump. Give them the catalog number, firmware revision from the HIM or web page, and a parameter listing. Firmware images are licensed and a dump is how plants get bricked or audited. If they need a file, it comes from Rockwell or the drive OEM portal under your contract, not from the cell.
