Free Modbus RTU logger on Windows — what do you actually trust on a plant laptop?

Need to watch a stubborn RTU slave for a night without buying a $4k analyzer. What Windows logger did you use that didn't inject traffic, and how did you keep the USB-RS485 adapter from becoming a second master?

Sniff only. USB adapter in listen, no polls from the PC. We use a TAP on the RS-485, not a Y-cable that loads the line. If you must poll, do it from the real master with a longer timeout and log at the master. A second master will give you CRC ghosts that aren't the plant.
